In Honor of Our Dear Comrade Greg Jung Morozumi
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of one of our founding pillars, Greg Jung Morozumi. Our beloved Greg dedicated his life's purpose to the struggle and liberation of Third World people. It is due to his critical understanding of political movements and Third World revolutions that he banded together with Elena Serrano, Susanne Takehara, and other like-minded cultural workers to create EastSide Arts Alliance in 2000.
It was because of Greg’s “each one, teach one” mentality that he served as a standard bearer of discipline and visionary world-building at EastSide Arts Alliance. He curated exhibitions, lent his personal legacy and catalogue of materials to create Community Archival Resource Project (CARP), Bandung Books, and mentored many cultural workers and community members.
Greg led by example – always learning, always teaching, sharing his DEEPLY held belief in Third World solidarity. Greg believed it was through the transformative power of artists and organizers that we all are able to feel and understand the struggles, the victories, and the 10-point plans of our organizing brothers and sisters.
We follow Greg's rigorous understanding of class politics and Black Liberation, maintaining that no one is free until Black people are free. We move knowing there is much to do in Greg’s name. We are workers. We are artists. We know that our collective purpose is housed in the assertion of our cultures and a commitment to liberation. His work inspired, his words encouraged, and his actions motivated us to continue the struggle to build power for our Third World communities.
In these times of undisguised fascism and white supremacy, we take the leadership and words of Greg to mobilize through arts and culture.
Our beloved Greg endowed us with so much wisdom in the form of original compositions, first-edition books, political records, music, art, and connections with artists and revolutionaries. We will be celebrating the life and legacy of Greg Jung Morozumi at EastSide Arts Alliance on November 1, 2025 as part of our longstanding Día de los Muertos tradition.
Rest in Power & Love,
EastSide Arts Alliance Collective
