THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING XICANA MORATORIUM!

Thank You Community! After nearly a decade, EastSide Arts Alliance shut down the busy 23rd Ave and brought back “La Xicana Lives Block Party” as part of the annual tradition of Xicana Moratorium, the event commemorates and pays homage to the powerful legacy and resistance of the Chicano Moratorium that took place in Los Angeles in1970.
This year's event was special, and felt more than a tribute, it was a living expression of community safety, unity and cultural pride! Aimed to bring love to our beloved city, and light and support to our immigrant community, the Block Party brought together dozens of local organizations to share community resources, build relationships, and uplift our block!
It was a beautiful, warm, East Oakland day! The smell of copal and delicious food filled the air, our stage was alive with a powerful program, featuring inspirational words from our guest speakers, poets and great performances. Beautiful art and classic lowriders filled the streets, and live cumbia bands had everybody on their feet! The day stood as a powerful celebration of cultural resistance.
Thank you for everyone's effort & participation from our volunteers to performers to everyone who showed up and showed love! and special thank you to Youth Alive for co-sponsoring. The Motorcycle Club REDRUM & the Brown Berets for being part of the street safety team, and Puerto Rican Street Cuisine and Moe's Pizza for the food donations.
