Screening of the 2024 groundbreaking documentary film The Strike
w/ Panel Discussion, Community Dinner and Community Wellness Sessions
The Strike spotlights the inhumane conditions and psychological terror caused by indefinite solitary confinement (SHU) at Pelican Bay Prison (California) and the 30,000 prisoners throughout California Department of Corrections (CDC) that went on hunger strike to end it.

Light refreshment will be available throughout the event. Dinner will be served at sunset in alignment with the fast. There will be plenty of plant based dishes.

Black August Resistance began in 1979 in San Quinton Prison (California). Black August is a memorial and a commemorative practice that honors the courage and actions of fallen revolutionary freedom fighters Jonathan Jackson, George Jackson, W.L. Nolan, James McClain, William Christmas and Khatari Gaulden. Black August is a direct response to the heightened repression Black / New African prisoners experience for organizing. Today, Black August is commemorated all over the world both inside and outside of prisons to raise attention to the hellacious conditions and to demand and end to the mass warehousing / modern day enslavement of our parents, elders, babies, partners, siblings, freedom fighters, revolutionaries, prisoners of conscience, political prisoners and prisoners of war.
