"Culture is an indispensable weapon in the freedom struggle.“
- Malcolm X

About the Black Cultural Zone (BCZ)
The Black Cultural Zone Collaborative works with a coalition of residents, government agencies, churches, and grassroots organizing groups to help keep Black folks in East Oakland. Through a strategy of building power, securing land, and directing more dollars to community-driven projects we can secure a foothold in East Oakland that finally allows our neighborhoods to thrive.
Arts and Culture
Using culture as the driving force that can bring community together, the BCZ uplifts and celebrates Black cultural traditions and innovations--stories, blues/jazz/hip hop; dance; theater and visual arts.
